In 1969, Pete and Effie Ampatzis came to Philadelphia from Athens, Greece. After a couple years working as a tailor in a large factory, Pete decided to take on a new endeavor. Years of hard work and dedication taught Pete the ins and outs of the restaurant business. In 1980, Pete opened the first Pete's Famous Pizza in Logan Square (Center City). The restaurant was an immediate success, and it became a Philadelphia favorite in no time. Soon after, Pete's Famous Pizza was awarded the highly coveted "Best Pizza of Philadelphia" by Philadelphia Magazine. Pete's Famous Pizza is proud to have such rich history in the Logan Square and Fairmount Communities. "Hot Stuff To Go" is a phrase coined by Pete's Famous Pizza that distinguishes us from the rest. Before warmer bags existed for delivery drivers, pizza was not often delivered piping hot. Pete wanted to ensure that no customer would ever receive a cold pizza, so he purchased pickup trucks and installed ovens on the back. This truly illustrates our priority in dedication to quality food. Today, the tradition of quality and consistency continues within the Ampatzis family. Many of our recipes, including our dough has remained unchanged for over 40 years. Pete Jr. is proud to carry on his grandparents' legacy. Pete's Famous Pizza still guarantees the highest quality food and service to every customer. In 2022 a third location in South Philadelphia was opened. Four decades strong, we are proud to still be a Philadelphia favorite and more importantly everyone's local Pizzeria.
